Option 3 : R

Four silver articles - P, Q, R and S, each having a different weight.

Let the weights of S = x

1) R weighs half as much as S.

Therefore, the weight of R = 0.5x

2) Q weighs two and a half times as much as S.

Therefore the weight of Q = 2.5x

3) P weights trice as much as Q.

Therefore the weight of P = 3 × 2.5x = 7.5x

Arrangement from heaviest to lowest:

P (7.5x) > Q (2.5x) > S (x) > R (0.5x)

Clearly, R is the silver article which is the lightest in weight.

Hence, ‘R’ is the correct answer.
