Movement along the supply curve refers to change in quantity of commodity supplied due to change in price of commodity whereas shift of the supply curve refers to either increase or decrease in the supply of a commodity at a given price. Reasons for shift in supply curve- 1.input prices 2. number of sellers, Reasons for movement in supply curve- The movement in supply curve can be of two types – extension and contraction. Extension in a supply curve is caused when there is an increase in the price or quantity supplied of the commodity while contraction is caused due to a decrease in the price or quantity supplied of the commodity.
