The Royal Commission of Agriculture was set up in 1926 to examine and report the status of India’s agricultural and rural economy and it submitted the report in 1928.

The government set up the ‘National Commission on Agriculture’ in 1970 to review the progress of agriculture and suggests for its improvement and modernization that submitted its report in 1976.
In 2004, the ‘National Commission for Farmers’ was constituted that submitted its fifth and final report in October 2006.
The report was popularly known as the M.S Swaminathan Committee Report.
National Commission on Farmers:
It was constituted on November 18, 2004, under the chairmanship of Professor M.S. Swaminathan.
The aim of the commission was to address the nationwide calamity of farmers suicides in India.
