Option 4 : (A), (B), (C) only

Correct Answer:(A), (B), (C) only.

(A) High potentialities for hydro-power generation:

  • Himachal Pradesh is extremely rich in its hydroelectricity resources.
  • The state has about twenty-five percent of the national potential.
  • About 27,436 MW of hydroelectric power can be generated in the state by the construction of various hydroelectric projects on the five perennial river basins.
  • Out of the total hydroelectric potential of the state, 10,519 MW is harnessed so far, out of which only 7.6% is under the control of the Himachal Pradesh Government while the rest is exploited by the Central Government.
  • The state government has been giving the highest priority to its development since hydroelectric generation can meet the growing need for power for industry, agriculture, and rural electrification.
  • It is also the biggest source of income for the state as it provides electricity to other states.

(B) High literacy:

  • The literacy rate in Himachal Pradesh has seen an upward trend and is 82.80 percent as per the 2011 population census. Of that, male literacy stands at 89.53 percent while female literacy is at 73.51 percent.

(C) High potentialities of horticulture development:

  • Horticulture in HP has been responsible for many of the positive outcomes in employment, wages, and in turn, poverty reduction.
  • Employment in horticulture as a percentage of all agricultural employment in HP increased from 0.9 percent to 28 percent between 1983 and 2009-10.
  • Crop diversification has made a significant impact on income and employment among small and marginal farmers.
  • Women are significant contributors to agriculture, horticulture, and livestock/dairying sectors.
  • In horticulture, women continue to provide significant labor and supervisory input to preharvest and post-harvest activities.
  • However, their access to horticulture technologies and extension services, market infrastructure/information, skill and entrepreneurship development opportunities, and decision-making structures remain weak.

Hence, all three mentioned are true about Himachal Pradesh.
