In an examination there ere 60 multiple choice questions. For every right answer 1 point is added and for every wrong answer 0.25 points are deducted from the total. No point is added or deducted for any unanswered question. An applicant answered 75% of the total number of questions and got a total point of 30. How many answers of the applicant were correct?

Correct Answer: 33
Let the number of correct answers be X. Total number of questions answered = 75% of 60 = 45 Now,  X - (45 - X)×0.25 = 30 or,  X - 45×0.25 + 0.25X = 30 or,  1.25X =   30 + 0.45×25 = 30 + 11.25 = 41.25 or,  X = 41.25/1.25 = 33
