In an examination there were 50 multiple choice question, For every right answer 1 point is added and for every wrong answer 0.25 points are deducted from the total. No point is added or deducted for any unanswered question. An applicant answered 80% of the total number of questions and got a total point of 35. How many answers of the applicant were wrong?

Correct Answer: 4
Let the number of wrong answers be N. Number of questions answered = 80% of 50 = 80/100 of 50 = 40 Then, the number of correct answers = 40 - N Therefore,  (40 - N)×1 - N×0.25 = 35 or,  40 - N - 0.25N = 35 or,  N + 0.25N = 40 - 35 or,  1.25N = 5 or,  N = 5/1.25 = 4
